Jovial Jar is the identity of my creative work—primarily hand-built ceramics, with an ongoing interest in paper craft, printmaking, and textiles.
The story
Ideas take shape through material.
Originally trained in physics and working in medical research, I carry science and the exploration of ideas into my art. I build ceramics without a wheel, using slabs and coils; my paper and clay works share an interest in folding and cutting flat sheets into new forms.
Simple geometries and motifs from pre-Columbian Mexican works connect the practice to my family heritage—and to the mathematical and astronomical knowledge of my ancestors.
